Molly J. Brown
Molly J. Brown is a professional musician, composer and playwright currently residing in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Originally from Anchorage, AK, Molly holds her Master’s degree in Music Performance from Western Washington University and Bachelor’s with a double major in Music Performance and Music Education from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Her past research is centered on Western Music and Jazz History, explored through various lenses, such as race, gender and immigration. She previously taught at Queens University of Charlotte and Central Piedmont Community College.
Highlights as an active musician/recording artist include featured performances in Charlotte, including the Jazz Arts Initiative, the Arts and Science Council, and the 2012 Democratic National Convention. In 2014, she toured with her jazz trio, The Fat Face Band, in the UK to perform at 10 venues and earned a sponsorship with Wessex Tubas. Her small musical company, Beautiful Day in Hell Productions, has been producing original fringe musicals in Charlotte since 2016. Awarded grants for original musicals include the Emerging Creator Fellowship (2021) and an Artist Support Grant (2022) from the Arts & Science Council of Charlotte, NC.
